Hands On Assignment 2

People can define social media and social networking in many different ways. The way that I define social media is thinking of it as just the platform or in a real-world example a venue. This is where you come to post content such as images and videos for others to see. Whereas social networking is the actual engagement on the platform or at the venue. Social networking is where the conversations and the questions spark so that you can gain a fan, follower, or customer. A way to communicate and build relationships with those on social media.

Social networking sites that I use are Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, TikTok and Snapchat. Although I rarely post content it is where I am able to ask questions to those presenting their content to me. I use Instagram as a way to find those with special skills such as hairstylist, makeup artist, and much more. This is where I was able to find a makeup artist for my birthday when I visited another state. I use Tik Tok for the same reasons as Instagram but also as an entertainment source. I was able to find my hairstylist after moving to Florida since I did not know anybody that could refer me to people. As for Facebook I do not post original posts, but I do share posts, but it is the main way to keep up with friends and family that I may not have the chance to talk to everyday. I use YouTube for entertainment and for informative reasons to help with my professional career. Lastly, I use snapchat for my use of entertainment purposes. I do not use YouTube as frequently as the rest of the social media platforms, but I do check Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat everyday whether I make a post myself or not.

I do not let social media dictate how I feel about myself. Although I do question myself when I see others look so happy doing the bare minimum, but I try so hard to succeed and sometimes struggle but I then realize that anyone can post fake news or make them seem better than what it is. It helps me jump back to reality and know that my life is mine and I make the best of it good or bad. Social media does sometimes dictate how I feel about the world giving me mixed emotions because it broadcasts the bad that's happening more than the good, but it is good to know both. I also realize that one social media post can ruin someone's reputation and that makes me so much more cautious of what content I allow on my page as I am sure others do. This causes me to feel a way because when you get on Facebook for instance it asks, “What's on your mind?” but you have to control what is on your mind because it can ruin your life in a moment of seconds when in the spotlight of the wrong people.
