Social Media Future: LJ4
After reading chapter 7 of Social
Media Communication by Jeremy Lipschitz I learned a lot of interesting
material. “Mobile technologies create flexibility to briefly bring people
together physically and virtually. (pg 194). Mobile technology has created many
opportunities for people such as giving them more time to do things at home or
on the go, for example on a vacation. Many people can make money from their
phones which means they can enjoy time with family and friends but still be
able to handle responsibilities on their phones. Since more companies are
creating apps for users to download, we are now able to do a variety of things
such as pay our bills instead of being face to face with a representative.
Mobile technology has also increased the social media impact on politics. Obama
created an innovative campaign app in 2008 that allowed young voters to access
their contacts that focused on the key states and urged them to vote. “The app
was a mobile portal for campaign information, upcoming events, Obama videos,
and positions on key issues” (pg 194). The app helped raise voters for the
political campaign. Mobile devices offer access to current information and
entertainment. Although it seems like mobile technologies make day to day life
a little easier there are many disadvantages such as increased levels of
cyberbullying of people in their communities and celebrities. When you like a
cause or group you are revealing some of your identity that can sometimes hurt
a person’s reputation depending on the situation. Technologies have also
allowed us to create memes that are basically a snippet of someone and putting
a funny or harassing quote with it. Another disadvantage is that our privacy is
not always protected when you go against an app’s terms of agreement.

Hey Arianna!
ReplyDeleteI completely agree with your thoughts on the Metaverse. I'm still in that gray area where I'm interested in knowing more about it (since I've never seen something like this before) but also worried about the effect it could have on our reality. Great post!
Hi Arianna,
ReplyDeleteAfter reading this week's material I also felt really interested in the metaverse and the plans that they have for digital technology. I think that whatever their plans maybe, we are going to see a serious change in social media and how we use it. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Arianna,
ReplyDeleteYou are correct; person-to-person contact for tasks like paying bills have definitely become rare. People see it as a positive that they don't have to interact with others, which I can understand sometimes, but I do feel like personal interaction is something that we shouldn't necessarily view so negatively.
