Social Media and Broadcast Media : LJ8

Social Media has become very popular over the years. Social Media has easily become associated with television and broadcast media as well. Occasionally I will get on Twitter and see one of my favorite shows on popular topics because their hashtag is circulating. Hashtags are a fun way to express your thoughts on the show that you are watching whether it is good or bad. I have seen many interviews with the actors that will answer questions from Twitter users about the thoughts they have had by using those hashtags to get the productions attention. Instagram is another platform the users will try to get the influencers and actors attention. They comment on their posts to see if they can get a reaction to them or will even slide in their DMs. Social Media has become a great way to promote shows. I regularly get on social media to find the shows and movies that others find interesting that I may also like to watch.

I personally do not use social media to communicate with any stars or influencers. I also do not tweet about the shows using any of the show’s hashtags. Although I do not try to communicate with the stars or tweet about them, I will share a post on Facebook that will agree with my opinion on the show or share a snippet of my thoughts on the shared post. However, I do discuss the shows and actors with family members or friends that are interested in the same show actively. The comments that are made about the influencers and stars definitely make me not want to be an influencer. I do not care for the comments on what I do on the daily, the way I dress or any other aspect of my life. I rather be rich than famous because I do not want to be followed around or talked about in a good or bad way, I just would want to live my life as is. I believe I think this way because I am more of a private person. For instance, the Chris Rock and Will Smith altercation on the Oscars is getting played back daily. New clips, new opinions, new articles were getting published daily for at least a week. A lot of people I know do not watch the Oscars but since this incident the Oscars was brought to everyone attention. Then the viewers start to wait for a response between all of the members involved and if one thing was to be said wrong it would be the topic nonstop for another week or so. The readings for this week did not change any of my beliefs or feelings about social media.

  1. Hello Arianna,
I know exactly what you're talking about when you mention interviews where actors will answer questions or react to tweets about them. There's also a channel on Youtube called Wired where people will do hashtag questions for professionals, and then they'll bring in an expert or professional to answer questions, such as asking a mortician questions. (That's my personal favorite of them so far.) Do you tweet about shows and just not use the hashtags? I do that sometimes as well since i don't want to draw attention from shows and/or some sides of the fandoms. You make a good point about the cost of being an influencer or star being that it is very hard to truly have a private moment. As a private person who prefers to just keep a few people around, that would be hard for me as well. Good job answering the questions!

  2. Hey Arianna,
I am not the type of tweet about shows or use hashtags, but I can see why people do this. Using social media platforms like Twitter allow us to be more expressive and share our opinions on things any way we want. While I said that I wouldn't mind being an influencer, I completely understand why someone wouldn't want to, and you made these points very clear. Keeping privacy despite having such a status must be very difficult after all.

  4. Hi Arianna! Just like you, I don't really interact that much with influencers on social media. For me personally, I usually just like their posts or share it with friends if I really like them. But at the end of the day, because I know they'll never see my comment if I do choose to interact with their post, I never do. There's no point if they're never going to see it.

  5. Hi Arianna,

I have seen that show you are talking about where famous people react to tweets or questions about them. It's very popular so I feel like while myself or others may not interact with celebs, a lot of normal people do since they want to feel so part of these people's lives that they will do anything to get a chance at their attention. I may like a post but I'm not gonna tweet out hey notice me.

  6. Hello Arianna,

I really enjoyed reading your perspective on social media in the aspect of communication with social media influencers. It is very uncommon for people to communicate with any stars or popular influencers. They seem too busy or on put themselves on a different status than the typical individual. So using something small such as looking at tweets from twitter is very normal.
