Social Media and Healthcare - LJ7

Social Media has evolved tremendously and has created an impact on the world in both good and bad ways. When talking about social media and Healthcare there are plenty of challenges that occur. The breach of patient privacy is a concern, the network of unreliable health resources that reach the internet, and a violation between personal and professional boundaries. On the other hand, there are many other things that are a good influence between social media and Health care. The ability to use networking tools such as Facebook, Instagram, and twitter allows health care providers to promote health and communicate with patients providing the education they need through reliable resources. False information is easily spread but since more medical facilities and health providers are joining networking platforms the ability to minimize false information is higher.

Social Media used in the workplace including in healthcare is used by to support professional connections, getting info that helps solve problems at work, asking work related questions to people external of the company. A good percentage is also used for personal reasons. On the other hand, these personal reasons can include things that will be a negative impact towards health care by sharing an experience from a patient or posting a picture of a patient in a comedic standpoint.  Social media has created a new way of marketing. This allows professionals to find jobs easily by connecting with other professionals in related job fields. On the other hand, social media has also been a way to bring forth the negatives about a company by angry professionals or patients.

I believe that social media has many more positive qualities than negative if the right rules are followed especially in healthcare. Since a great percentage of the world’s population is on social media health care professionals can push forward the importance of receiving health care. This has been proven true through the pandemic with COVID19 vaccines and how social media has brought awareness over the spread. Social media has caused people to be aware of the side effects or the benefits of receiving the vaccine since more people tend to look for answers through people that they know other than following reliable sources
