Social Media Ecosystem: LJ9

Online Popularity is of great importance as it reflects the potential demand for products in the future (Z.Zhang 694). eWOM is also known as electronic word of mouth which is a method that is used drastically to promote services and products. eWOM is an unpaid method that promotes products and services from either the personal business or consumers making comments on the businesses. Electronic world of mouth has been able to promote a little better than traditional marketing which is paid because there are many ways to promote the way you want to. Celebrities and content creators advertise by using ewom to get the viewer's attention. Most of the time when viewers see their favorite celebrities and creators use a product whether the product provides true results or not the viewers will buy those products. Online reviews from websites such as yelp have a great impact on multiple companies. Yelp shows reviews from real people on different things such as restaurants.

Personally, I don't wait on the reviews of celebrities and content creators. I do try to find reviews from verified websites such as yelp when trying to figure out what products to buy or services to receive. Although celebrities and content creators do have the ability for certain products, I do understand that they sometimes hold sponsorships to give good reviews, or the businesses will send their best products to promote and then send out poor quality products to others. Businesses have to be aware of Social Media ecosystems because this is used to promote businesses as well even if in a negative perspective. The Social Media ecosystem can ruin your business since it is all connected through social media and the comments. In my opinion it will be more beneficial to do your own research when thinking about buying a product that a content creator and or celebrity promotes because it is hard to tell if it is a true review or one that was paid.

  1. Hi Arianna,
Your statement about how the Social Media Ecosystem can ruin a business is spot-on. It's has to be scary for up-and-coming businesses to see negative reviews online, knowing how much traction even one bad word from a person can get.

  2. I completely agree with both of you but, negative reviews for a new business can be good and also beneficial depending on how they react to those reviews. I have a friend who had her countertops redone but after a short period the white epoxy started to turn colors and turned out very ugly. My friend tried to reach out to them to get this fixed but they were not very responsive. When my friend took her pictures and posted a review of the company and their lack of reaction to her problem they immediately reacted when they could have just done that to begin with. it depends on how the business takes action to correct the problem or make changes.

  3. Hello Arianna,

I 100% agree with you on the topic of how popularity can influence the demand on a product. It is certain that if a celebrity or a well-known individual promotes a specific brand or product, the that product will be most definitely be in high demand. It is just the idea of eWOM and how this society functions as capitalism. Examples that I can think of to support your claims even more basketball shoes. Jordans, Lebrons, Shaq shoes, are all under eWOM.

  4. Hi Arianna! I believe that a product's standing online is definitely very important to the measure of success that follows it. If it doesn't have a good and trustworthy image online. the product is most likely going to fail because having a consumer's trust is simply very important. In this day and age where most shopping is done online, this carries great weight in the final sales of a product.

  5. Hello Arianna,

I agree 100%, I don't really enjoy waiting for huge influencers to review a product. I like forming my own opinions or looking at google reviews from people like me so I can form a proper opinion. The influencers are too jaded and bias to give me a true review.

  6. Hello Arianna,
I understand why you would won't wait for influencers to review a product and do your own research. I agree that doing your own digging on a product can be more useful than watching someone with a a biased opinion, rave about it. In the long run it will save you money.
